All About Arnie

Two of our volunteers took Arnie to the Statfold Country Park event on Sept 14th. He stood up th entire journey and was a bit stressed but once there, he jumped out of the car fine and walks well on the lead, no pulling at all.

We thought we’d see how he would do on the train as it was more open than the car. He needed to be helped on due to the gap between the platform and the train and was a little unsure at first when the train started, but soon soon forgot about it once he met his adoring public in the carriage, who gave him lots of fuss.

He hopped off he train without issue and enjoyed meeting an array of people as we headed towards the HRH stall. Arnie is such a well mannered and gentle boy. He was happy to receive fuss from everyone he met, including children and small dogs. One small dog approached and snapped at him and he backed off calmly, not showing any reaction to the dog at all.

Arnie wasn’t phased by the many loud noises at the event, such as steam engines and the blasting of vehicle horns in unison in the arena.

We took the short train journey back to the car park (again, Arnie needing help onto the train but not off) and he was quite unsettled in the car on way back to the kennels. He decided to lie down for the last few minutes of the journey, which we saw as progress. Although he did need to be lifted into the car, he jumped out fine.

In summary, Arnie is a gentle, well mannered boy who copes well with new situations and experiences, even if he is a little unsure of them. Hopefully a few more trips out will help him to feel more settled when travelling by car. We have definitely fallen for him.

Given he has only recently joined us in kennels and all this would've been completely new to him, we think he did really well, don't you? If you'd like to meet this wonderful hound, then please get in touch,
