As we ended 2023 last year, Home Run Hounds was a “not for profit” company, with 9 spaces at one kennel site. Fast forward a year as we say goodbye to 2024 and we are now a registered charity with 60 Greyhound spaces over 4 UK sites, covering all areas of the UK and abroad ….. run purely by Volunteers.
Home Run Hounds has come an incredibly long way in such a short space of time, and this could only have been achieved through the sheer dedication of the HRH Volunteers and kennel teams who come in all weathers every day to socialise the Greyhounds in our care to help find them that special “forever” home.
We should also like to thank our Supporters, Sponsors, Donators and of course our Adopters who continue to believe in us, who along with many Volunteers stuck by us through what was a tough beginning to the year with all the miss information being spread with the confidence that 100% of every £1 raised goes to the Greyhounds in our care (not many can say that!).
There are many components to running a successful homing center, but the 2 main ones are of course Dog Welfare and Active Volunteers. Our dogs have exceptional care and have all their needs met (and exceeded) by our wonderful volunteers and kennel teams at the different sites. They get to enjoy many different walks and adventures, which not only gives them exercise and stimulation, but also educates the public as to what amazing pets ex-racing greyhounds make (especially when you are getting a pedigree hound for a donation as well as us for life!!) and is crucial to finding them their forever homes.
Our volunteers also take “homeless hounds” on foster as well as taking them out for outings over week days and weekends to help us get them ready for their new homes. In fact, several went out on foster over Christmas and came back with glowing reports… all helping us to get these hounds a home.
If you fancy volunteering with us, there are so many opportunities, including if you cannot have a dog of your own, fostering for us either for a weekend or longer whilst costs and welfare are fully supported by the team. This has already proved immensely successful over the last 12 months so if you are interested, do contact us and join our foster team.
Home Run Hounds also thanks all the Companies (too many to name individually) and other Independent Homing Charities across our 4 sites who have supported us with donations and of course all those who are happy to share our posts.
We are so greytful to you all for everything you do - from dog walkers to fund raisers, admin and media teams working hard behind the scenes and of course, everyone supporting us and everything in between. Through your dedication, Home Run Hounds has become the successful charity that we dreamt of and your efforts and hard graft, have made dreams come true for our beautiful dogs with us homing 159 hounds in 2024. Its never about the numbers, one hound in a home is one less in a kennel, and into 2025 we hope like many others we can do out bit for this amazing breed.
We have more exciting news to come soon, but for now we wish everyone who is in the "homing world" whether dogs, cats or other, a positive and successful 2025..... We all know its tough out there, but lets hope working together we can improve the lives of so many more in the months to come.
