FREDDY'S 100KM CHALLENGE SUCCESS

Home Run Hounds could not function without our volunteers - they are all incredibly special.
When Jen approached us to see if she could volunteer with her then 6 year old son, we welcomed them and looked forward to their induction.
Freddy was nervous, shy & incredibly quiet, so we weren't sure if it would be his 'thing' at first.
Animals have an amazing 6th sense and greyhounds are such a gentle and loving breed. Seeing Freddy with the dogs has been like watching a wonderful movie. Through his love and understanding of the breed, a painfully shy little boy has turned into a confident and incredible young volunteer.
Freddy is an all rounder at kennels - there are no jobs he won't do. From cleaning out to socialisation, feeding to teeth cleaning and everything inbetween - Freddy is such a valuable member of the team.
As if this isn't enough, Freddy has always helped with fund raising, making seasonal treat boxes for sale at events - so we were overwhelmed when he set himself a target of walking 100km in a month, with an original target of £500.
On bank holiday Monday, we all joined Freddy on his last 2km, cheering him across the finish line. His total so far has exceeded £5400 ! We cannot thank everyone enough for supporting this amazing young man.
To be successful at homing greyhounds, we have to raise awareness of them as pets. In addition to Freddy's incredible funds total, he has gained the following and support of local and mainstream press & various social media influencers. This in turn has really put Home Run Hounds out there, reaching people who previously may not have considered a greyhound as a pet.
