Greyhound Adoption Procedure

All you need to know about adopting a Greyhound from us.

Welcome to Home Run Hounds.    

All our Greyhounds are ex-racing hounds who have retired from the track and are looking for their "forever" home.   We also home greyhounds who were not interested in racing and often can be cat friendly.

All our Greyhounds will be neutered, flea and worm treated, microchipped and come with a full health check, including a dental, before leaving us for their new home. 

Upon making an appointment, you will be invited to come along to our kennels to meet the Greyhounds in our care.  During the adoption process, we will either make a home visit or a video tour of your home to assist with any changes that may be required to suitably home a Greyhound.  There's no pressure involved and it gives an opportunity for you to ask questions and for us to guide you on certain aspects of life with a Greyhound. 

You can take as long as you wish to find the right Greyhound for you.  We will help you throughout by trying to match a Greyhound with your lifestyle to help both you and the new Greyhound in your life.

Home Run Hounds also offers a "Foster-To-Adopt" service which means that potential adopters can, after a successful "Home Check," foster their chosen hound for 2/3 weeks to see how their potential pet will settle in their new home before a full adoption takes place.  We ask for a donation of £200.00 upon adoption. This helps us to bring a new ex-racing Greyhound into Home Run Hounds care. Everything we receive goes towards the welfare of our Greyhounds.  All our staff are unpaid volunteers. 

We will also ensure you have a new leather lead, collar and muzzle at adoption when you adopt.

Home Run Hounds is also linked to PetPlan Insurance which offers 4 weeks of free insurance coverage on adopting a Greyhound from us.  Should you wish to continue with PetPlan after this period, a further 4 weeks of free Insurance coverage is offered.
