The pupdate we are excited to tell you about ! JJ - the cutest 'kid' in the kennel block has been signed up on long term foster.
At just 10 months old, and having been with Home Run Hounds for half of his life, JJ is living his best life with super volunteer Alan and his fantastic family. Greyhound puppies are NOT for the faint hearted. They may look cute, but have been likened to velociraptors and even Gremlins by homers. They need time, patience, love, understanding and plenty of hard work - from toilet training, to lead training and everything inbetween. Alan is on site almost every day. Having made JJ his life's work to become 'homeable', the 2 of them grew a mutual bond and JJ went 'home', in the hope that he would settle and take the unspoken word of 'being home' from the rest of Alan's pack.
So, why a long term foster and not a straight adoption ? All hounds leaving us have to be responsibly neutered and we cannot neuter a dog under 12 months old, due to ongoing platelet growth. Also, as a result of JJ breaking his hock, during a rough and tumble game in the field with his siblings, the likelihood is that JJ will require expensive, ongoing medication in his later years. These medications are not without side effects, so ongoing vet consultancies and costs are a definite. Any dog on foster with Home Run Hounds has our absolute guarantee that all costs will be met, via our fund raising.
JJ has taken to home life well, under the expert guidance and dedication of Alan and his family. To say we are absolutely thrilled for this gorgeous boy is a massive understatement. Our heartfelt thanks is extended to them and all that remains is for us to say 'Way to go JJ, you've landed on your lucky paws'
As with all our long term fosters - we will keep you pupdated with JJ's progress
