All About TILLY (RULE THEM ALL)

Meet our sweet girl, Tilly!

Tilly is about to reach a very special milestone — she’ll be turning two years old on 8th July. Although she’s been in our kennels since the beginning of May, we’re only just introducing her to you so that you can follow her journey after a rather tricky start.

Tilly is an incredibly nervous soul. When she first arrived, she stayed at the back of her kennel, frightened of everything and everyone around her. Watching her blossom under the care of our amazing kennel staff — Stuart, Corren and Joan — alongside our dedicated volunteer, Kay, has been nothing short of heartwarming. They are all completely devoted to helping Tilly learn that the world isn’t quite as scary as she once thought.

We are so incredibly proud of the progress she’s making every single day.

Tilly has developed the sweetest routine with Kay, who visits every day to work with her and is slowly, carefully introducing her to other walkers. Her tail, once permanently tucked between her legs, is beginning to relax, and she’s even been known to greet Corren and Joan with an excited wag and happy little bounce each morning — although only when she thinks nobody is watching!

One of Tilly’s favourite things is when Kay sits quietly with her in her kennel, gently stroking her. Tilly snuggles right in, as if she’s saying, “Thank you for believing in me.”

The next step in Tilly’s journey is a big one. Kay will be taking her home to begin introducing her to the wider world and helping her feel safe travelling in a car. Their first attempt was a little overwhelming, as the beeping from the car’s boot frightened Tilly, so next time Kay will be using a different, quieter car to help make the experience a little less daunting.

It’s these small but beautiful victories that show just how much love, patience and understanding can transform a greyhound’s life. Tilly is finding her confidence one walk, one cuddle and one wag at a time.

Our hope is that by her birthday she will have experienced the comforts of home life and be ready for someone special — someone who understands sensitive, “spook” dogs — to give her the chance she so richly deserves.

Because beneath the worry and uncertainty, we can already see it: a beautiful, brave young girl just waiting to emerge.
