RAY (VELVET RANGER) []

A loving tribute to a dog who found a forever family through Home Run Hounds.

RAY (VELVET RANGER)'s story:

Ray came into our lives as a foster dog at the end of June 24, at the time I was struggling with the heartbreak of losing my previous Greyhound 3 months earlier.

He was chosen for us by HRH because he’d been in kennels for a while and it was felt a foster home could give him a good chance of finding his forever home.

Ray (aka Ranger) slotted in to our lives so easily and I quickly realised he was the ray of light I’d needed. We split our time between the midlands and North Wales. One day in early August we enjoyed an especially gorgeous evening at one of our favourite beaches, sitting on the sand watching the sunset with Ray cuddled into my side, it was clear on that evening that he was here to stay.

We officially adopted Ray on 11th August. All dogs are special and all teach us valuable lessons, but the impact Ray had on our lives in the short 8 months we shared will stay with us forever. Ray had such huge enthusiasm for simple daily activities, like meal times and going for walks. This enthusiasm didn’t even slightly waiver when he was struggling with illness. We could all learn a lot from his positive attitude I think.

He liked to show his enthusiasm by jumping up or nibbling on your fingers. Sometimes he'd get so excited to go for a walk that he’d pinch my hat out of my hands as I was getting ready! We affectionately referred to him as Ranger Danger.

You could never be sad for long when he was around with his constantly wagging tail and silly antics. For all his goofiness though, being around Ray felt like you were in the presence of an old, wise soul. There was something in way he would stand and gaze into your eyes as you stroked him that made you feel at peace.

I loved to kiss his nose and tell him how special he was. He was a soul like I’ve never encounter before, who came into my life when I needed him most. I was so lucky to have had him by my side, to have loved and cared for him, even though our time together was tragically so brief. Until we meet again my boy.
