BEE (BUMBLEBEE REID)'s story:
WERE BUZZING..... See below....
In April, our lives changed forever when we adopted Chewy, our very first greyhound. He quickly became part of the family, and through him we discovered just how special these gentle souls are.
Not long after, I began volunteering at Broadmarsh Kennels in Hagley one of the charity’s Midlands kennel sites. That’s where I met Bee. From the very first moment, something clicked — it was as if we just knew each other. Each visit to the kennels became incomplete unless I spent time with her, and she seemed to feel the same way.
My husband suggested we bring Bee home for short visits, to give her a taste of life outside the kennels and help her find confidence for her future. When we introduced her to Chewy, the bond was instant. Bee brought out a new spark of confidence in him, while Chewy’s calm nature reassured her. Watching them together was like witnessing two puzzle pieces finally fit.
Bee’s personality quickly shone through. She is cheeky, endlessly curious, and has a particular talent for stealing anything fluffy! Her love for squeaky toys is unmatched, and she makes us laugh every single day with her antics. What started as a few daytime visits soon became an overnight stay, then a weekend… and before we knew it, Bee was not coming back to the kennels.
She is home. She is family. She is here to stay.
Adopting an ex racing greyhound is more than giving them a home — it’s giving them a chance to discover who they truly are. Chewy and Bee remind us daily that these dogs are not just retired racers; they are companions, comedians and loyal friends. If you’re considering adoption, know that the love you’ll receive in return is beyond measure.
