HAPPY HOMING MARY
Ballymac Rainbow, known as sponsor hound Ruby started to decline during the summer of 2025. By Easter it was becoming very difficult to control the symptoms of pancreatitis,. Sadly Ruby crossed Rainbow Bridge and Margaret and John who took such good care of her were devasted.
Their intention was to take one more sponsor hound after their holiday but Margaret had been battling with health problems of her own and despite having a break they felt taking they weren't able to take on another needy sponsor hound. Indeed they were worried that they may not be able to have another hound at all!
Enter Mary. John who is a lead volunteers at our Watford Gap kennels, took to Mary from the moment he first saw her. If he was unable to walk her, he would spend time with her in her kennel before he returned home. We all noticed that John had lost his sparkle not having a dog.
While they away, Mary went on foster2adopt so that was that, so it seemed.
However when they got back, both John and Margaret were volunteering at the kennels thinking about possibly taking another hound, Flo, on a short term foster only basis to help increase her confidence.
They had been at the kennels five minutes, when they found out that Mary was on her way back because the resident chihuahua wouldn't accept her.
So fate intervened and Mary went home with John and Margaret.
Not surprisingly, Mary was quite confused at first, about what was going on but soon settled and after only a couple of weeks on foster 2 adopt she was adopted last Friday with lots of celebration and cakes provided for the volunteers by John and Margaret.
Mary is already being a great ambassador for greyhounds, working her magic on their friends and family.
Margaret said, "We have a lively and mischievous hound, who we already love, and see as starting to fill Ruby’s big boots. I have found she and Ruby are related through Mary’s great-grandparents.
